How ChatGPT Made Me Want to Quit Writing

In the last few months, I’ve been on a writer job search since leaving my full-time last November. I officially started my hunt on Feb 2023 after traveling to Taiwan, the Philippines, Macau, and a camp trip on a faraway island in Hong Kong.

I assumed it wouldn’t be too difficult to find another full-time writing job with my credible amount of copywriting experience throughout the years.

Until someone mentioned this to me.

For those who don’t know, ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI, based on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture. It is capable of generating human-like text based on the input it receives. ChatGPT has been trained on a large corpus of text data, which allows it to understand natural language and generate responses that are contextually relevant and grammatically correct.

As a chatbot, ChatGPT is able to carry out a conversation with users on a wide range of topics, answer questions, provide information, and even assist with tasks like writing and research. Its responses are generated in real time based on the input it receives, and it can adapt to new information and respond in a conversational manner.

Overall, ChatGPT is an advanced language model that is capable of generating high-quality, human-like text and interacting with users in a natural and engaging way.

Simply put,

is ChatGPT going to replace my job?

While more than a handful of writers find chatbots to be a beneficial tool in their writing process, others have expressed concerns about the impact of chatbots on the writing profession.

One concern is that chatbots may replace human creativity and intuition in the writing process. Some writers worry that relying too heavily on chatbots for tasks like generating ideas or editing could lead to a loss of originality and creativity in writing.

Another concern is that chatbots may contribute to the devaluation of writing as a profession. If chatbots become widely used for tasks like content generation and editing, some writers worry that the value of their work could be diminished and that the profession as a whole could become less respected.

Finally, some writers worry about the potential for chatbots to be used for unethical purposes. For example, chatbots could be used to generate fake reviews or to spread disinformation, which could have negative impacts on businesses and society as a whole.

Honestly, what I loved about writing was the creative process of it all. I treat writing the same way I view my other dance passion, Breaking.

It’s an art form.

From the way you brainstorm your ideas, your outline, the words you’ve picked, and the overall structure. That’s all on you.

But with the rise of ChatGPT taking over the world by storm, it’s honestly taking away the fun for me.

Well, that's what I thought initially.

Turning Art into Sport in the Olympics

Breaking, also known as breakdancing, has been added as a new sport to the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. The inclusion of Breaking in the Olympics has generated both excitement and controversy within the Breaking community and beyond.

Breaking is a form of street dance that originated in the Bronx, New York in the 1970s and has since spread worldwide. It consists of various styles of dance, including toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes.

Some members of the Breaking community are ecstatic about the opportunity to showcase their skills on a global stage and gain recognition for their art form. Others are concerned that the commercialization and standardization of Breaking for the Olympics goes against the roots and culture of the dance.

Admittedly, I was on the latter.

What drew me the most to this art form was the freedom, creativity, and most importantly — originality.

“Individuality rhymes with originality for a reason.”

However, I have confession.

I didn’t do my research on how Olympic Breaking works.

I’m just talking mad trash.

So I’ve found three individuals who are on board with the Olympic Breaking Committee or relevant National parties to help answer my questions.

You can read the full article here.

So how are Olympic Breaking and ChatGPT related to this article? So many questions yet not many answers.

You must be pretty bored if you reached this point of the article.

I appreciate you.

Here’s the answer with another question:

“Did I do my research on what is actually ChatGPT?”

Damn Erryl.

You were complaining about how ChatGPT is taking over your job.

Yet you didn’t even do your research on what it was.

Tens across the floor.

I was pretty bumped out that ChatGPT was taking over the world by storm, in terms of that writers could now be devalued for their work.

But one of my mentors told me that I should utilize AI tools such as ChatGPT instead.

If you can’t beat them, join them.

Here are 3 ways writers can utilise ChatGPT:

  1. Idea generation: Writers can use ChatGPT to generate ideas for their writing projects. By inputting a topic or prompt, ChatGPT can provide suggestions and insights that the writer may not have considered. This can help writers overcome writer’s block and come up with fresh and innovative ideas.
  2. Improving writing style: ChatGPT can also be used to improve writing style. Writers can input their writing and receive feedback and suggestions on how to improve their grammar, tone, and overall writing style. This can help writers refine their writing skills and produce higher-quality work.
  3. Research assistance: ChatGPT can also be used to aid in research for writing projects. By inputting a topic or question, ChatGPT can provide relevant information and sources that the writer can use in their research. This can save writers time and effort in finding and organizing research materials.

You may be also wondering:

“Did you use ChatGPT to help you write this article?”

An astounding YES!

I’m not going to quit being a writer any time soon. ChatGPT is now my b*tch. You will now help me create tons of articles on which later I will put my personal touch.

It’s like Breaking. You got to utilize sets and how to freestyle during your rounds. It’s more or less the same thing, I think.

Have you used ChatGPT before? What was your experience like? Let me in the comments below!

Peace!
